ribnik river – fly fishing report
REPORT FOR : 20.10.2026
FISHING : Solid
WATER LEVEL: Very low
BEST TIME OF THE DAY : Afternoon
HATCHES: Bwo
MOST PRODUCTIVE TECHNIQUE: Dry fly , Sight nymphing , Indicator nymphing
PATTERNS: Olive emerger (size #20 – #22) yellow emerger (size #22 – #24) , yellow CDC Upwing (size #22),olive – yellow ribbed CDC Upwing (size #20) Nymphs – standard pheasant tail (size #24) , plivka nymph (size #20)
TACTICS: There was some rain day before, and some small rain in the afternoon however water level did not raise . But the fishing was solid with some good dry fly activity during the afternoon. Small bwo’s were hatching and both small and big fish were rising to them. Even though nymph fishing was also productive , it was hard to resist to not fish with a dry since it was first solid activity since a long time on Ribnik . The river still have only few spots to fish so it was the best to arrive early to the good spot and wait for the hatch. Spot at “the forest” was our favorite . Since the water is really low and slow, thin tippet was mandatory so 7x or even 8x tippet , fished downstream. Emergers were also very productive when the fish became more selective. Overall solid day of fishing .
about the river ribnik
The Ribnik is a small but extraordinary river, stretching just 5 km, fully wadable from start to end — giving anglers complete access to every pool, run, and riffle. Despite its modest size, it holds an outstanding population of wild fish, including grayling growing up to 60 cm and wild brown trout with recorded specimens reaching an incredible 90 cm. Crystal-clear water and consistent hatches make the Ribnik a true paradise for dry fly fishermen, while its clarity and structure also make it one of the finest destinations for sight fishing anywhere in the region.
