A Remote Bosnian River with Big Wild Fish

A BEAUTIFUL CLEAR RIVER WITH TROPHY-SIZED FISH
The Dabar River offers a truly remote fly fishing experience, surrounded by dense forests and untouched nature. The area is sometimes referred to as “Bear Valley,” as bears inhabit the surrounding forests and can occasionally be seen coming down toward the river to drink.
Much of the Dabar consists of slower, crystal-clear water, creating excellent conditions for sight fishing. The river is stocked with rainbow trout, including some exceptionally large fish, giving anglers the opportunity to spot and carefully target individual trout in the clear water.
Alongside the rainbow trout, the Dabar is also home to impressive wild grayling. Despite the relatively small size of the river, grayling can reach remarkable proportions, with fish of up to around 60 cm recorded. The combination of clear water and large fish makes a careful approach and accurate presentation especially important.
One of the most distinctive features of the Dabar is its source. The fishing zone begins close to the headwaters, where the river emerges directly from a huge cave surrounded by forest. The cave itself is a popular local attraction and creates a spectacular setting for the beginning of a fishing day.
For anglers looking to get away from more frequently visited waters, the Dabar combines remote scenery, crystal-clear water, trophy-sized fish and excellent sight fishing in one of Bosnia’s more unusual river environments.
