A Small Bosnian Gem with an Abundance of Wild Grayling
Fly fishing the sanica
A Small Tributary of the Sana, Rich in Wild Grayling
The Sanica River offers a few kilometres of Catch & Release fly fishing, with excellent numbers of wild grayling throughout its waters. Although relatively small, the river provides exciting and often highly technical fishing in beautiful natural surroundings.
Its shallow, easily accessible water makes it possible to spot fish throughout much of the river, but the clear water also means that anglers need a stealthy approach, careful presentation and good technique. Larger grayling can be particularly cautious, making every successful approach and take especially rewarding.
During the right conditions, the Sanica can offer some of the best dry fly fishing in the area. Good hatches bring large numbers of grayling to the surface, creating excellent opportunities to target individual rising fish with small dry flies.
Despite the river’s modest size, its grayling can reach more than 50 cm, making the Sanica an exciting fishery for anglers searching for quality wild fish in intimate water. Its combination of shallow runs, clear water and abundant grayling makes it especially enjoyable for anglers who appreciate technical dry fly and sight fishing.
